Bertolini: Employee engagement is everything in a service economy

Aetna Chairman and CEO Mark Bertolini recently appeared on several national television programs to discuss Aetna’s approach to wellness in the workplace.

On PBS Newshour (For this CEO, mindful management means yoga for employees), he spoke about how mindfulness and yoga helped him deal with a life-threatening injury with lifelong consequences, and how that led him to realize the benefit these practices could bring to Aetna employees.

On CBS This Morning, he also highlighted the many health and wellness programs that Aetna offers to employees, including mindfulness and yoga classes, as well as an on-site urgent care facility and pharmacy.

When asked why he pushed for the investment in these programs, Bertolini said, “Employee engagement is everything in a service economy.”
