Aetna Chairman: Health care needs to be affordable for everyone

Aug 01 2014

During a guest host segment on CNBC’s Squawk Box on July 30, Aetna Chairman, CEO and President Mark Bertolini offered his prescription for fixing the health care system to make care more affordable. “If we are going to fix health care, we have to get at the delivery of care and the cost of care. We have increased access but it isn’t really affordable yet.”  To view a three-minute clip from the program, go to CNBC.

Following the program, the Squawk Box team posted the entire show in three segments and blogged, “If you watch all three, you’ll walk away with a much wider view of why America’s health-care system is so hard to reform correctly.”

Bertolini shared a similar perspective in a opinion piece recently. His message:  If we want to pay less, we need to waste less. In that piece, Bertolini notes that  beyond better physician communication and collaboration, payment reform will be the single most important driver in reducing all categories of waste.
